Week 1
Hi, my name is Sarah. I have yet to take the NCLEX. I had a lot of things happen right after nursing school that delayed me to take the NCLEX. Once things finally calmed down, I felt very unprepared. Which lead me here ultimately.
Since I haven’t taken the NCLEX, I’m just going to speak on my test taking skills in general. I rush through questions and often misread the questions. I also have a hard time figuring out a good studying strategy for myself. I like how interactive the teaching is and how you always reiterate certain things. I’ve already felt a sense of more confidence from this week alone compared to the two years of nursing school.
Week 2
I believe my confidence has increased this week. All the little things that I didn’t quite pick up on in nursing school are finally starting to click for me. I’m slowing down on my questions and breaking them down and I’ve noticed my test scores going up just from doing that.
Studying wise I watch the PasswithPass lectures and listen first then after class re-listen to the lectures and write down anything that still confuses me. I then go to the book and read that and most of the time I’m able to correct myself. In class I write down any of the charts or pictures you draw and I’m able to make a better mental note on that subject just by having something to go back and look at. The way you break down information is a lot easier for me to comprehend and apply to my questions on Uworld.
I’ve finally figured out times that work for me to apply myself to questions and Uworld. Energy is something I’ve always struggled with cause I’m constantly trying to juggle everything but I know this is my priority because I want to be a nurse so bad. I deserve it as well as my daughter. I want a better life for us and if taking a break from outside world will get me there then it will all be worth it in the end.
Week 3
This past week has definitely put a damper on my studying and everything. I’m hoping that from here on out it’s smooth sailing. I’ve been reading up on the book and relying on it more whereas in nursing school I would just reference the book and look small things up and not read word for word. I’ve noticed I’ve been able to retain more information that way. I know I need to stay up with my questions. I’ve never been good at time management but I’m going to do better!
What gaps have you recognized since starting this class, and how can you work on these?
I’ve always struggled with med surge and breaking down diagnosis. Especially endocrine and I feel as though the way you break things down and connect the dots was a lot simpler and easier to grasp rather than back in school. I’m struggling with labs especially since missing this week. I am trying to connect the dots on my own and it’s not clicking well for me. Listening yesterday I wasn’t able to retain the information as well as being active in the class. I’m hoping to stay more engaged and confident in answering questions as our time dwindles down.
After passing the NCLEX
From Nick – Sarah ran into some real difficult situations and still studied throughout the 6 weeks to succeed passing her NCLEX. Sarah is now an RN! After recently catching up with her, she has overcome the personal obstacles, purchased a house and is living her best life! She worked hard and earned the results she has. Congratulations Sarah RN!
