Week 1
Hi, my name is Brooke, I went to Vermont State University for my LPN and RN. I graduated with my LPN degree in 2023 and passed my LPN boards exam. I progressed to the RN year. And graduated with my RN in May 2024. I took the NCLEX twice now and failed both attempts. I was unsure of what to do. I found you online and thought it would be a good 6-week course to take fore refresher and structure.
What do you believe you have had trouble with NCLEX? Test anxiety, test strategies, overthinking, changing answers, decrease confidence.
I like the active recall and starting each day off reviewing what we did in class the day before. I will continue with repetition as that is most helpful for me thus far.
Week 2
My confidence is better this week, but I feel that some days I am defeated and sometimes just doing the questions to get them done. These days our questions show my scores in the high 60’s instead of 70s like I have been doing. I know I need to focus on myself back this weekend and try to get a good night’s rest to be more prepared and ready this coming week.
During class, it really helps to go over what we did the day before at the beginning as it gets my mind thinking and reviewing. Not having the schedule lined up threw me off a bit as I must study one system at a time and feel confident before moving forward. I think reviewing all the videos this weekend will help me be more confident in all subjects next week.
I will continue to make flashcards and review them every day till my NCLEX. Consistency and review are what I think will help me most. I also hope to find a friend who may be willing to review content with me every day. I have support at home but sometimes having someone who is familiar with the content might be more helpful as we can help one another be successful. I also hope to get into a better study routine this weekend and next as I worked my one day but it was changed around per my work. I am planning to be more selfish with work and focus these next 4 weeks to pass.
Week 3
I feel I have improved on repetition when I study, before I feel I studied everything once and thought that was enough to know my stuff clearly, I realized it wasn’t. Now I know make the flashcards and flip through the ones from week one while adding in the knowledge I and learning in week two and three. I feel I have gained knowledge since the start which is way different than when I studied before.
I think the biggest gap recently is that we are done with week 3 of the class and I am getting more anxious about the NCLEX. I think my confidence has stayed the same for the past two weeks and anxiety has been going up. I plan to relax a bit after each class and day before jumping into studying and I think I need to learn to step away at times when I start to get frustrated or overwhelmed. My study habits are good with studying material, but the questions can be difficult to apply the knowledge at times. I go through the questions and read the rationale, but I think I need to do that repetitively this weekend and next week as I can say even though it says to review an old test, I haven’t been able to do that besides the quiz I did that day.
Week 4
Since the start of 6 weeks, I had to get into a routine again of studying. I started making flashcards and taking notes from the lectures, and since I started, I have seen improvement in remembering and doing better on questions. I think some days I rush questions, and I need to slow down, but overall I am feeling better about my study and study routine.
My immediate thoughts: if you asked me to take the exam tomorrow, I would be scared and probably have increased anxiety, but I feel I am confident that in the next two weeks I will be able to pass as if I continue to study and put in the work like I have been. I know I can do this!
Week 5
I feel I have gained more confidence in my knowledge and skills with the information I need to know for the NCLEX. I feel more confident and prepared for this test now than I have ever been.
This class has helped me be more confident in my ability to take the NCLEX test. I feel I have used the videos to really grasp the understanding of what I need to know. I also feel class and tutoring has helped me use what I learned from the videos and helped me feel better about how to navigate the test and how to answer the questions the way I should. I feel confident I will pass this exam next week!
Week 6
I am going to pass the NCLEX because I have put in the work by watching videos, taking notes, doing questions and studying so that I am prepared to take the NCLEX and pass. My hard work these past 6 weeks makes me confident I will pass the NCLEX when I test next week.
These past 6 weeks and working in class and on my own have contributed to my success. Everyone is so helpful with being supportive and confident that it has decreased my anxiety and made me feel confident in testing. I also think my hard work and dedication has prepared me for when I test.
Brooke passed the NCLEX
After passing with 85 questions Brooke is currently working on a PCU unit where she has been employed.
